漁翁夜傍西巖宿，
曉汲清湘燃楚竹。
煙銷日出不見人，
欸乃一聲山水綠。
迴看天際下中流，
巖上無心雲相逐。

Under night in the narrows
a fisherman tied up his boat
along the craggy west cliff to sleep .
Then dawn hooped his pail 
dipping up water from the Hsiang 
as his bamboo fuel's spines
sputtered to flame . 
But his wisp of smoke melted 
in the sun's upward plunging . And no 
trace of him . $Only undertone , " ao ai "
 of oar-thole$
$caught in the widening trough of river and joined stone .$
